Watercolour paintings by Susie Green show powerful yet precarious scenarios of partnered, dressed figures. In ‘Gummi Elation‘ (2019) our fetishistic protagonists melt into their contained world, wearing tight bodysuits of black and red. In ‘Second Skin’ (2019) a duo of soft forms appears in a starker, unknown environment. Perhaps in subspace, their bodily tones overspill from the confines of their drawn outlines. In both works, neither figures are constrained by gravity or the weight of their forms. Are we seeing figures experiencing heightened ecstasy and dribbling pleasure, or instead, wrestling to find understanding in a difficult, contemporary world?’ – Susie Green (2021)
